It was kismet (fate or luck) that brought the Silence Girls to our door. Two women with a passion and a dream to see a little Turkish book of short stories by their favorite actor Engin Akyürek shared with the world. October 2022 we went to the magnificent city of Istanbul and met with Engin Akyürek’s publishers. Loved everything about Istanbul!

Meet Ken Dakan Translator for Sessizlik and Zamansiz
The author takes us back to his childhood with an interesting mix of coming-of-age stories that we can all relate to whether we live in England, South America or Turkey. Who did we get to translate these nostalgic trips the author takes us on? These fond feel good memories of eras past.
Kenneth Dakan!
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kenneth Dakan first came to Istanbul in his 20's and lives between there and London. He promised to make cay when we visit but only after stuffing us with one of his homemade mezes.
Ken’s published literary translations include Ayşe Kulin’s Without a Country, Love in Exile, Rose of Sarajevo (all published by Amazon Crossing) and Farewell (Dalkey Archive Press), Ece Temelkuran’s The Time of Mute Swans (Simon & Schuster) and Deep Mountain (Verso), Perihan Mağden’s Escape (Amazon Crossing), Buket Uzuner’s I am Istanbul (Dalkey Archive Press), Birgül Oğuz’s Hah! (editor and co-translator; World International Publishing) and three instalments of Mehmet Murat Somer’s Turkish Delight Murder Mystery Series (Serpent’s Tale/Penguin). Dakan also translates short stories, subtitles, TV scripts and screenplays.
